Precise Flight SpeedBrakes now available on Van's RV-10
For Immediate Release
One more element has just been added to the already impressive performance envelope of Van's RV-10 aircraft: Precise Flight SpeedBrakesTM are now included on the list of available features. RV-10's are known for their speed and powerexactly the kind of experimental plane SpeedBrakesTM are meant for. SpeedBrakesTM do two things best: decreasing speed while a pilot keeps the same attitude, and increasing a plane's descent speed while maintaining engine power. When flying level, SpeedBrakesTM can drop 20 knots off the RV-10's cruise speed in the space of 10 seconds with no notable difference in the cockpit. Conversely, deployment of the SpeedBrakesTM during landing will increase the aircraft's speed of descent, even while keeping the power at 1000 fpm. More than anything, SpeedBrakesTM let the RV-10's pilot baby the plane's Lycoming IO-540 by removing any risk of shock-cooling the engine during a quick descent.
David McRae of RDD (Research, Design, and Development), head of the development program for the RV-10, commented on the judiciousness of Precise Flight and RDD's collaboration in this project, "We provide proven systems for experimental aircraft and Precise Flight's proven reputation for quality and reliability is very much in line with our own commitment to the experimental builder." Both companies pride themselves on their ability to fulfill customer needs, building up enviable positions within the aircraft community. In fact, this collaboration effort between Precise Flight and RDD has added a host of options to the RV-10 pilot's toolbox. For example, SpeedBrakesTM especially come in handy for less-than-optimal landing approaches such as "slam-dunk" landings and when flying into mountainous airports and shorter fields. Not only that, they also make any cross country trips more enjoyable by minimizing the time an aircraft has to spend in congested or bumpy airspace. Best of all, SpeedBrakesTM save wear and tear on the gear and motor since pilots can use them even at redline speed.
Precise Flight has the most experience of any company with SpeedBrakesTM as SpeedBrakesTM were the company's first product offered to the aviation market at its founding almost three decades ago. Since then, the company has branched into other areas of general aviation, such as oxygen systems and HID lighting, with an impressive track record of entering a market and becoming the standard of excellence. However, SpeedBrakesTM remain their trademark product.
The list of benefits that SpeedBrakesTM bring to an aircraft essentially boils down to one thing: flexibility. For any pilot looking to increase the capability or performance of their airplane, Precise Flight's SpeedBrakesTM are the natural choice for maximizing an aircraft's utility and value.
