Leading Edge Aviation Outfits Its Fleet of Robinson R22s with Precise Flight's HID
BEND, OR - March 12, 2008 - Precise Flight, Inc. announced at HAI Heli-Expo in Houston Texas last February that Leading Edge Aviation of Bend, Oregon has decided to outfit its fleet of Robinson R22 helicopters with Precise Flight's PreciseLite HID lighting system. Robinson Helicopter Company began factory installations of the PreciseLite in 2007 due to the unmatched light quality and advanced lighting technology the units provide. Leading Edge plans to complete its fleet-wide installation this March.
Precise Flight's developments with HID technology continue to generate recognition in the market as the list of leading aircraft manufacturers with PreciseLite factory installations and certified aftermarket installations increases. "There was a time when the product and its distinguishable benefits required comparison. We've now crossed that line, as high intensity discharge has become the industry standard in aviation lighting. Now our customers can spend more time comparing the quality of the technology they're considering, rather than contemplating the light itself. Inconclusively, when compared against other similarly placed units on the market, the PreciseLite outshines its competition, both in Lumens per pound and Lumens per dollar" said Scott Philiben, Vice President of Precise Flight. "There's no question that as the PreciseLite continues to evolve, incorporating more advanced trends in lighting technology, our designs will continue to lead the way in aviation lighting."
Leading Edge's president Brad Fraley says "The cost of changing the traditional landing lights was so high we stopped using them during daylight operations. This solution from Precise Flight will allow us to again use our landing lights for daylight recognition of our fleet both lowering our operating costs and enhancing safety of our operations. We also feel offering this option on our overhauls adds great value for our customers." Leading Edge owns a fleet of 13 Robinson Helicopters and completes several overhauls each year. Leading Edge's involvement in the STC project was crucial as it allowed Precise Flight the ability to test various light configurations and obtaining certification. The initial installation has been running for 1000 hrs plus without replacement.
With a 35 watt output, the PreciseLite HID system draws significantly less power from the system's electrical bus, while increasing lifespan and providing light output comparable to a 250 watt incandescent bulb with improved light quality.
About HID Lighting
HID Lighting provides the brightest illumination available. A 35 watt HID lamp produces up to 5 times the lumens of a standard landing light bulb, making the light as bright as a 250 watt lamp. HID Lighting is designed to produce a light that is closer to that of natural sunlight, allowing for improved peripheral vision and greatly enhanced visibility. Additionally, HID lighting has a far greater product life, averaging up to 5,000 hours to reach a 20% light output reduction, and uses significantly less energy than standard aviation lighting.
